Proudly Serving Dallas/Fort Worth & Surrounding Areas

Southlake, TX Air Conditioning Repair & Service

History

The Southlake area has been settled for nearly 200 years, but the city itself wasn’t incorporated until the mid-1950s. Prior to its incorporation, the land that would become Southlake hosted a slowly growing number of dairy farms, ranches and crop plots. Unlike some other communities in the Fort Worth region, the city never hosted intensive oil and gas development. After the damming of Lake Grapevine and the subsequent construction of nearby Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Southlake gained favor as an affluent bedroom community. These days, its proximity to Dallas and Fort Worth makes it an important business hub as well.

Geography

Southlake lies in the northwestern portion of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Although most of the city lies within Tarrant County, a small portion spills over into neighboring Denton County. The center of Southlake is about 20 miles northeast of Fort Worth and about 25 miles northwest of Dallas. Much of the city is covered with low-density suburban developments that attract affluent homeowners, but several key parcels are protected from intensive development. Like other outlying suburbs of Dallas and Fort Worth, Southlake is surrounded by gently rolling countryside that’s typical of the unique Cross Timbers ecosystem.

Population and Demographics

Southlake’s rapidly growing population figure now sits near 30,000. Thanks to the region’s low land prices and lenient annexation laws, this figure looks sure to increase during the coming years. Most Southlake residents are transplants from the Metroplex’s more expensive suburbs, but some have made the journey to North Texas from places like New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Since the area is home to a number of major corporations, financial and legal professionals are heavily represented here. Tarrant County’s excellent schools have drawn a sizable continent of young families as well.

Things to Do in Southlake, Texas

Southlake has a wealth of local resources and regional attractions. Boaters and fishermen delight in the proximity of Lake Grapevine, an enormous body of water that’s surrounded by marinas, boat launches and rolling hills. For shoppers, Southlake Town Square offers a pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining experience that doesn’t necessitate a long drive into Dallas. Meanwhile, nature lovers appreciate the extensive, well-preserved ecosystems at Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve. The center’s hands-on exhibits are especially popular with schoolkids. To the south, Waterchase Golf Club offers world-class greens in a quiet neighborhood.

Climate and Weather

Like much of the rest of North Texas, Southlake has a subtropical climate that’s characterized by dry, hot summers and wet springs. Although summertime highs routinely peak above 100 degrees, Southlake is rarely beset by the muggy, oppressive conditions that affect southeastern Texas cities like Houston. Precipitation tends to spike during the transitional seasons and fall during winter and summer. Although winters can be quite chilly, hard frosts and frozen precipitation aren’t particularly common. Indeed, it’s possible to grow a wide range of temperate and subtropical plants here.
