Colleyville History

Colleyville first settled as small communities in the 1850s named Spring Garden, Pleasant Run, Pleasant Glade and Red Rock. The first prominent school opened in Spring Garden in the 1860s. The city is named after Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley, a physician who moved there in 1880. Unlike many other nearby cities that owe their beginnings to the development of the railroad, Colleyville grew mainly due to the proximity to nearby Fort Worth. Prior to receiving the name Colleyville, the town originally grew around Red Rock, later renamed Bransford. It was Felix G. Bransford who maintained the general store and post office for the then thriving community. The city officially incorporated January 10, 1956. Since then, the population grew at a much faster rate.
